Holy

by Fern Creson

This work explores religion, rather spirituality, from the alternative perspective. I was not raised religious, but there has always been something deeply resounding about the prospect of a higher power. Growing up in Utah, I used to beg my mom to let me go to church with my LDS friends, so which she refused for a good reason. I toyed on and off with organized religion for years, but in high-school I was able to put that desire and belief to words; Universe. I found God/Universe everywhere, especially in music and drugs. Holy was created during my senior year of high-school as I began sobering up, slowly coping with the time I had lost, damage I had done, and real lessons drugs did teach me about seeing and the world.

Through my art I express an understanding and connection to Universal Spiritual power through an unconventional lens that I hope viewers will resonate and learn through.

Artist Bio

My name is Fern Creson. I am a 20-year-old multi-media artist from Salt Lake City, Utah, currently getting my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Creative Writing from Seattle University. I am set to graduate 2026. Being raised by artists, my mother a performance and textile artist and my father a writer and film photographer/filmmaker, I have been programmed to create and to see the world from an artist's eye. It is that undeniable seed of creation planted within me that asks me not what to create, or when, but to always be. It is an urge, a pile of every kind of material from paper to wood that is so deeply rooted in my existence. I am an artist not by aspiration, but by birth, and it is a pleasure to share my work with this collective journal of others like me.
