Bug Perspective Electrify

by Aiden Sanchez

Bug Perspective Electrify is a digital collage that is made up of a collection of images that fit a particular theme and aesthetic. For this collage, I make use of different image manipulation effects alongside making use of low-resolution image artifacts and settings to get a grainer, worn out look that adds to the surreal, abstract nature of said pieces.

Interview with the Artist

Q: Where do you find inspiration from? What was your inspiration for this particular piece?

A: My inspiration comes from a variety of diverse sources, though I typically find my inspiration from abstract, surrealist and collage work in terms of the ethos attributed to those styles of art. I also happen to take heavy influence from compressed, amateur digital design associated with mid-late 2000s internet. The dated nature of this type of design and its associated characteristics of low-quality imagery and primitive design-work. It's these art mediums alongside the aesthetic qualities that come with the following that serve as the foundation for my inspiration, the likes of which inspired this piece.

Q: What is your creative process?

A: There are a lot of indeterminate factors at play when it comes to my creative process. There may be particular elements and concepts I want to capture in said piece, but the final piece is not something that comes to mind when I first start out, and it is only realized once a significant amount of progress has been made on the art I'm working on. I may decide that a certain idea works better halfway through, or that I want to change up the theming of my piece entirely by the time my work is near complete. In some ways, my creative process is much like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle into a final image, but without having any prior knowledge as to what the final image will look like.

Q: Is there a story your piece is trying to tell? If so, what is it?

A: I did not have a story in mind when creating the following piece.

Q: What does art mean to you?

A: To me, I see art as being an outlet for one to express any given set of ideas, emotions, or aesthetics. There are many different artists out in the world, all of whom specialize in certain mediums and styles, yet they are all able to find solace in their work in some form. For some, drawing out original characters with distinct personalities, physical attributions and lore is their way of expressing themselves, but for others, some might find joy in creating serene landscapes through vivid imagery and color. The type of work one does not diminish the personal quality of said work to whomever it pertains to. In my perspective, there is value to be found in all forms of artwork. The value itself does not necessarily need to be of epic proportions or something that personally resonates to you, but if you are able to view any form of art and take away something from it, whatever that may be, then it has value.
