Momma made a monster,

It had olives for eyes,

Pepperoni for teeth.

It’s boiling blood oozed,

on your Thriller outfit.

I was a sweet little orc,

and as you cradled my cheeks,

I pretended to kill you.

Yesterday I saw a jack-o-lantern

and I cried.

Momma doesn't make monsters anymore.

We don’t dress up.

We don’t trick or treat.

We still get goody bags.

Antidepressants in yours,

Xanax in mine.

But back then we walked side by side,

Like little beggars in the night,

Praying for goodies in the goody bag,

As we would for the rest of our life.
