Tribute to Mother

Tribute to a mother is in honor of my mother. She was a strong Asian woman who loved her children. She died of Dementia in 2022. A photo of her in her younger days is placed in her hair to remember her youth and strong will. The last Japanese Obon festival that we attended as a family are in the front folds of her kimono. There is a picture of one of her daughters that lay next to her heart.

About the Artist, Faith McWalter

As a child, I grew up with a camera in my face. My father captured every moment of my childhood with his Canon F-1. My father would lose his ability to use his camera due to a stroke and he gifted it to me. It sat on a shelf in a canvas bag until he passed away. As I went through all his negatives and photographs, I realized it was how he viewed the world. He had not only captured childhood memories, but he also captured beautiful images of the world around him. The gift he left behind would change how I view my world too. I will be graduating from the University of the Incarnate Word in Spring 2023 with a B.F.A in Photography and a minor in Art History. I believe that photography is more than just a captured moment in time. Photography is an artist creating a piece of art that evokes a reaction or an emotion for the viewer. My photographs are intended to look beyond the image itself. From a butterfly on a leaf or figures overlaying the same space, I wish for viewers to appreciate the lines of nature, values of color, or awareness of shapes. By blending images together, a person can see the physical relationship of the images; however, can also conjure feelings, tones, or moods.
