STY ウルトラ (style ultra)

This was my first ever digital drawing where I attempted to create a more realistic rendering on clothes. When I first got into drawing I mainly focused on fan arts of my favorite characters. But this was one of my first pieces where I decided to let loose and draw whatever came to my mind. So I decided on a Japanese style magazine sort of drawing. It was here were I truly got too see how far I had come from my first drawing. It was super fun to draw and still one of my favorite pieces till this day!

Interview with the Artist

  1. What impacts do you think art can have on society?

The impact I think my art can have in society is the reconciliation between one self and expression. Often artist are set to have a medium or style that they are known for which isn’t bad but I think it’s important to always want to branch out. With the range of my art I hope that society takes the thoughts that I plant within my pieces that being true to what you like and yourself is what is most important.

  2. What is the main message you would like others to take from your pieces?

This piece in particular was when I first started to explore with other styles. Prior to this piece I was mainly doing fan art because I know that my audience would like that. But I learned that my art is best when it’s something I want to do even if it doesn’t meet the “trending” charts. Self expression as an artist is extremely important. Coming to terms that it’s okay to express yourself in more than one style or medium is what’s truly going to take your skills and art to the next level.

  3. How has your artistic style changed over the years? Do you follow current trends or follow different themes?

My style has definitely changed over the years. I’m a very curious person and often want to try different things with my art to find what I do and don’t like. I take inspiration from artist I love and dissect their pieces to see what I would like to incorporate into the creativity of my mind to make an entirely new art piece with my own take.

  4. What does art mean to you?

Art to me means letting your true self come out. All the thoughts in my mind that perhaps I can’t put into words I turn into art. When I truly got into art I was at the lowest point in my life and it helped me put all those emotions out of me and into paper. It helped distract me from all the hard times and transported me into a world of my mind where I could express myself unapologetically.
