God Bless America, Part 1

Talia Dinger

Artist’s Statement

I am an artist based in New Hampshire and am graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a focus in painting at Colby-Sawyer College.  I’ve recently begun working with themes involving mental health, specifically my own. I started using this as my signature theme to discover and reflect on feelings that I currently have or have had in the past. I have been overwhelmed with situations that were happening and they were affecting my actions and thought process. I was tired of dealing with it on my own and wanted to use art as a healthy way to express myself.

If you're interested in Talia’s work, she does commissions and prints. You can follow her on Instagram (talia.d29) or email her directly at talia.dinger29@gmail.com.

Interview with the Artist

1. What was your inspiration for this piece?

My Father. He is a Marine Veteran and comes from a line of Military Veterans as well.

2. What is your creative process?

Some of the pieces I have done before focused on my perspective of the relationships I have around me. I wanted to try and make art from the perspective of the other person to try and understand them better. My father happened to be my first exploration since I have been working with him recently and started to understand him more than I ever have before.

3. What are some influences on your artistic process?

I wanted to focus on the military because being a Marine is a big part of who my father is. He still hangs onto the traits of a soldier. He's reserved, hardworking, and always up for a challenge. I wanted to show those traits in these pieces.

Editors’ Comments

The “God Bless America” series exhibits admiration to those who serve the military and veterans. It's clean, powerful, and most importantly conveys the meaning of ‘a picture is worth a 1000 words.’
