Interview with the Artist

1. What was your inspiration for this piece?

I am a painter who seeks to explore the manifestation of memories. I utilize acrylic paint as a media that allows me to create rapid layers of the background and figure. The process of creating my artwork is similar to how memories are manifested. Memories are recollected in distorted segments, especially those that have emotional weight. My paintings culminate essential emotional configurations that we as humans experience. They grapple with the strengths and weaknesses derived from memory capabilities. Memories can provide a place of comfort or a mental hindrance. Our memories can be a catalyst for a variety of routes in life. Thus, I attempt to delve into memory as a powerful force of duality.

2. What is your creative process? (How do you go about creating?)

I create my work with a representative photo as a basis, but as I render the image, it melds into an entirely new entity. In congruence with how we remember memories, my paintings are the amalgamation of various elements. They give glimpses of representational ideas without revealing the complete picture. Through the process of painting, I interrupt the image with spontaneous moments.

3. What are some influences on your artistic process?

I am inspired by my upbringing in New Mexico. My artistic journey enforces human commonalities that transcend barriers such as language, rurality, and poverty. I evoke a genuine contemplation on the cyclic lives of people, which captures a universal connectivity.
