I hit my funny bone,
but it wasn’t funny.
It sent ripples of pain through my body,
but didn’t feel like any normal pain.
Like throwing my favorite glass cup as hard as I can into
the pool with the puke-green bottom,
but just watching it fill up and sink.
It felt like I lost my arm,
but felt the pain all the more just because my arm was still there.
That’s what it was like
Losing you.
It wasn’t some horrible breakup
or getting a new house in a different state.
I lost you.
You’re still here,
but I lost you.
We’re in the same house.
In the same bed.
The same AC hits both of our heads with brown hair and unfinished arguments.
I hope I get to see it turn grey.
But I lost you.
And you hit my funny bone in your sleep.
But I felt a different type of pain.
And it wasn’t funny.
